Dr. Kenneth Y. Tang is Trex Enterprises’ Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Dr. Tang has held these positions since August of 2000 when Trex separated from ThermoTrex Corporation. Under his leadership, Trex has grown to a multi-million dollar business and six new technology commercial ventures have been created: Loea Corporation, Silicon Kinetics, e-Phocus, CrossFiber, Sago Systems, and Ophthonix.
Dr. Tang’s vision for Trex and its subsidiaries is a direct result of his diverse background working as an executive with successful high-tech companies. Prior to forming Trex Enterprises as an independent company, Dr. Tang was Trex’s President under the umbrella of ThermoTrex Corporation, which was a publicly held subsidiary of Thermo Electron Corporation. He also served as Senior Vice President of ThermoTrex Corporation. In 1988, Thermo Electron acquired Western Research Corporation, which later became ThermoTrex. Dr. Tang was part of Western Research’s executive team and held the position of Vice President of Technological Development. He joined Western Research in 1980 to lead the company’s laser experimental program.
During Dr. Tang’s tenure at ThermoTrex Corporation, he assisted in implementing parent company Thermo Electron Corporation with its spin-out strategy. ThermoTrex Corporation revenues grew from about $10M to more than $300M with over 2,000 employees working in three publicly held subsidiaries. ThermoTrex Corporation’s business grew from government contract research and development to commercial fields including laser cosmetics, x-ray medical imaging, and telecommunications. Dr. Tang held various roles in these new ventures from the founding President to the Board of Directors. Included among his technical achievements is his pioneering development of laser hair removal systems.
Dr. Tang graduated in 1975 from Indiana University where he pursued his doctoral studies in physical chemistry. He received his undergraduate degree from Chung Yuan Christian College in Taiwan.
