Tzu-Chiang Hsieh, Ph.D.
President & CEO, e-Phocus, Inc.


Dr. Tzu-Chiang “TC” Hsieh has nearly two decades of experience in product development and management in the digital imaging industry.  He joined e-Phocus as President and CEO in 2001.   

Prior to joining e-Phocus, Dr. Hsieh was the Vice President of Myson-Century Semiconductor Company leading its digital image IC product lines.  From 1997 through 1999, Dr. Hsieh was the Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Who? Vision Systems, Inc., an Irvine, California technology start-up focused on fingerprinting imaging and imaging platforms for digital cameras.  Dr. Hsieh was responsible for the engineering and manufacturing operations including developing important strategic partnerships for manufacturing and product distribution. 

Dr. Hsieh also had a career at Polaroid Corporation (1987-1996) and was promoted from Staff Scientist to Program Manager.  Among Dr. Hsieh’s many accomplishments at Polaroid was his success at co-designing a million-pixel imager using charge-coupled device technology in 1989.   Dr. Hsieh also led a team of engineers to develop digital still cameras for consumer applications.  From 1995 to 1996, he led a team of engineers to develop an innovative software architecture that allows a digital camera to exchange objects (data, image, and executable code) with a PC for image manipulation, photos and workflow management. 

Prior to joining Polaroid Corporation, Dr. Hsieh worked for AT&T Bell Laboratories (1986-1987) as a member of the technical staff focused on atomic structures and super conducting behaviors of Y-Ba-cu-O films. 

Dr. Hsieh earned his PhD degree in Experimental Solid State Physics from the University of Illinois.   Dr. Hsieh authored and coauthored numerous technical papers in his early career.
