Positions are available for a variety of R&D projects in Albuquerque, NM and San Diego, CA involving development and testing of sophisticated optical imaging systems. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Physics, Engineering, Applied Science, or Computer Science. Consideration will be given to the qualified applicants at all degree levels with appropriate experience. The candidate will play a key role in solving problems encountered when propagating optical beams through the earth’s atmosphere, under a variety of adverse conditions, such as those encountered in astronomy, adaptive optics, communications, surveillance, and use of lasers for defense applications. Specific wavelengths of light vary from project to project, over an order of magnitude from the visible to the mid-infrared wavebands. Environmental conditions range from mountaintop observatories to stabilized ship platforms at sea.
Experience in or knowledge of electronic and/or optical instrumentation, lasers, experimental physics, system control, or software development to interface with advanced electro-optic devices is required. Experience with LabView is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be able to work in a team environment with other scientists and engineers. The work will involve interaction with government and commercial customers, as well as peer scientists.
