Trex is seeking highly qualified applicants to lead the System Engineering effort in the development of sophisticated, high-performance imaging systems, to be used on ground-based and airborne imaging platforms for a variety of surveillance applications.  The new generation of systems are enabled by Trex advances in ‘computational imaging’, including algorithms, sensor configurations, and lasers, which rely on fast image formation from a very high-bandwidth stream of sensor data.  An immediate position is available for highly skilled and distinguished applicants.  This position is at Trex's San Diego R&D facility in San Diego, CA.

Description
The Senior Systems Engineer will provide technical expertise, leadership, and mentoring in the area of system engineering for the development of active imaging systems covering diverse applications and platforms.  Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience in leading and managing cross-discipline engineering teams, cross-company teaming, balancing cost schedule and technical risks.  The engineer will have experience with optical, laser, sensor, and processor subsystems.  Concept of operations, mission objectives, and capability to perform mission analyses and trades, develop specifications and interfaces, and test/verification plans all at the mission, system, and subsystem level.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and documenting requirements, analysis, modeling and simulations of end to end system performance,
  • Lead efforts on defining architectures, performing system trades, trade studies, flowdowns, developing verification
    plans and operational plans, including Concept of Operations,
  • Provide the technical expertise to determine performance measures, technical budgets, system trades, document
    and control interfaces,
  • Perform trades and analysis for imaging systems at mission, system, subsystem and component level,
  • Actively participate in the development of technical content for proposal costs and schedule estimates,
  • Works closely with the customer to confidently answer questions and concerns,
  • Complete assignments on-time and on-budget, and clearly communicate interim status and any changes,
  • Present results, status, progress and issues clearly and concisely to both management and our customers.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics or a related technical discipline with 10 + years of experience in the aerospace industry and exposure to engineering of remote sensing electro-optical systems.  Familiarity with systems engineering, design, and analysis of both ground-based and airborne systems including knowledge of environmental requirements, platform subsystems and interfaces, operations and maintenance processes, ground processing support required.  Technical knowledge of electrical optical sensor systems required.  Must have the ability to proactively identify problems and potential problems before they occur while generating proposals for effective solutions or countermeasures. 

A proven track record as a strong leader with excellent coaching and team building skills.  Ability to mentor and guide others through complex technical assignments required.  A self-starter with the flexibility to work in a rapidly changing and dynamic business environment required.  Excellent written, verbal communications and interpersonal skills.  U.S. Citizenship and ability to gain security clearance is required.
